New Congressional Bill Aims to Bring More Awareness and Support for Cerebral Palsy – Here’s What You Need to Know

At CP Warrior, we believe in not just wearing our support for the cerebral palsy community—but living it. That’s why we’re excited to share news about a major step forward in raising awareness and driving research for cerebral palsy (CP) in the U.S. Congress.

Earlier this month, Congressmen Steve Cohen (D-TN), Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) introduced a bipartisan bill called the Cerebral Palsy Research, Education, and Awareness Act of 2025.

So, what’s this bill all about—and why does it matter?

What Is the Cerebral Palsy Research, Education, and Awareness Act?

In short, this legislation is designed to increase federal support for cerebral palsy research, education, and awareness efforts. It recognizes that although CP is the most common motor disability in children, it’s been underfunded and under-researched for far too long.

Here’s what the act aims to do:

Boost Research Funding: The bill would direct the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to expand CP research—something that hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves. The goal? Better understanding, improved treatments, and maybe one day… a cure.

Improve Data Collection: By strengthening data collection through the CDC, researchers can get a clearer picture of how CP affects people throughout their lives—not just in childhood.

Expand Training & Education: The bill encourages training healthcare providers and educators so they’re better equipped to support people with CP at every stage of life.

Raise National Awareness: This act also calls for enhanced public awareness campaigns, helping everyone understand what cerebral palsy is, and most importantly, who the warriors behind it are.

Why This Is a Big Deal for the CP Community

There are more than 1 million Americans living with cerebral palsy, but until recently, there hasn’t been consistent federal attention on their needs. This act is a game-changer because it says: We see you. We hear you. And we’re ready to do better.

For many families, caregivers, and individuals with CP, this bill is a long-overdue sign of progress. It brings hope that the next generation of CP Warriors will grow up with better tools, better support, and more visibility.
